Wildflower Bellflower

Flowering the year after sowing, this cheery native perennial produces royal blue flowers which are highly attractive to bumblebees and other beneficial insects. It is ideal for dry borders and heavy soils, especially areas which are left to grow wild. Requiring little maintenance, it’s very easy to grow.

How to Sow and Grow

  • Sow indoors: for surest results, in trays of compost.
  • Cover very lightly with fine soil.
  • Water well and place on a warm windowsill at about 20°C(68°F).
  • Seedlings should appear in 14-21 days.
  • Transplant seedlings 5cm(2in) apart to further trays when large enough to handle.
  • Gradually accustom young plants to outside conditions (avoid frosts) before planting out 25cm(10in) apart.
  • Sow outdoors: in a seed bed, cover very lightly with fine soil. Keep moist and weed-free.
  • Thin seedlings to 5cm(2in) apart before planting out to flowering positions in spring or autumn, spacing 25cm(10in) apart.
