Fig (Ficus) Brown Turkey

Brown Turkey is the classic British fig.

Produces masses of large, brown skinned fruits that are pear-shaped.

A sugary, rich, red flesh; very tasty! Large, glossy palmate leaves.

Good compact habit, very hardy and reliable and easy to grow.

Happy when planted in the ground or in pots, prefer a sunny location, indoors or outdoors.

Hard pruning is recommended to encourage young replacement shoots on old ‘woody’ plants.

Figs ooze a white sap when pruned in the spring or summer.

This is not harmful but can cause irritation to the skin.

Pinching out of strong growing tips in mid summer encourages the development and ripening of the current crop.
