Cabbage Savoy Clarissa

Savoy Cabbage Clarissa is an attractive, quite compact, dark green, finely blistered leaved autumn savoy with a sweet taste. Best grown for autumn harvest and stands well during this period. When shredded it adds texture to mixed salads and stir-fries or use as a steamed vegetable.
These vegetable seeds are endorsed by the RHS.

Sow thinly in a prepared seedbed, 12mm (1/2in) deep, in rows 30cm (12in) apart. Keep well-watered and cover plants with fine netting to deter birds and cabbage caterpillar attack.

How to Grow

Transplant when large enough to handle into well prepared, firm soil. Allow 50x50cm (20 x 20″) between plants. Plant firmly with lower leaves just above soil level. Water well until established.

More Info

Water cabbages regularly, particularly during dry periods. Feed throughout the growing season with a high nitrogen feed. Hoe between plants regularly to prevent weeds from establishing and bring insect larvae to the surface. Draw earth up around the base of each stem to prevent wind rock and improve the plants stability. Culinary note: Vitamin rich cabbages are particularly high in iron and potassium, but also low in calories.
