Santa's Grotto

All aboard the Chepstow Express!


Join us for a magical journey to the North Pole to meet Santa Claus in his grotto, right here in Chepstow Garden Centre. 


Our Grotto this year is an interactive, multi room experience finishing with everyone meeting Santa and Mrs Claus. 


You and your family will start on the 'Chepstow Garden Centre train station platform', before boarding the Chepstow Express. This magical train simulation will transport you to the North Pole, ready to meet Santa in his grotto. There will be plenty of fun along the way and all children will receive a toy of their choice in the grotto toy shop. There will also be the option to purchase commemorative photo gifts at the end of the grotto.

After the grotto, stay to browse our amazing Christmas displays or treat yourself to a relaxing coffee, cake or meal in The Garden Restaurant and Cafe. Don't forget Newhall Farm Shop, stocked full of fresh, local produce and even more festive treats! 


We will be running Quiet Sessions every Thursday at 5pm and 5.10pm. These will be sessions where we reduce noise levels within the grotto (the light levels within the grotto are already low and although we have lots of fairy lights, we make sure they do not twinkle) This is so children with learning disabilities, autism or sensory processing disorders can enjoy the experience with their families. Adults/Young Adults £5

An Adult/Young Adult ticket can be booked for any person who would like to experience the grotto but does not require one on one time with Santa or gifts along the way. We have created this option for older children who would like to attend with their families but may not wish to fully participate. Please note, any person under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult over the age of 18.

Please note TicketSource charge a booking fee which is non refundable.The booking fee is 7.5% of the total value of your purchase. We will pay 50% off this charge, the other 50% will be added to your total.

If you require a refund, the full 7.5% booking fee is non refundable.

The ticket box office is open Monday - Friday, 9am to 7pm and Saturday 9am - 5pm. Calls to this line will cost £1.75 plus your standard rate. An additional £1.75 booking fee will also be added to ticket prices. 



All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Where is the grotto?

The grotto is based in Chepstow Garden Centre, Pwllmeyric, Chepstow, NP16 6LF. Our centre is in Monmouthshire, South Wales and we are near Bristol, Forest of Dean and Gloucestershire. 


When is the grotto open?

The grotto opens for our Christmas Preview Event on the 7th November from 3pm! It is then open daily and closes on Christmas Eve at 2pm.

PLEASE NOTE: the Garden Centre, Restaurant, Cafe and Farm Shop have different opening times to the Grotto. If you wish to shop or eat within these areas, we ask that you check the opening times first. If you have a late time slot for the grotto, we can not guarantee you will be able to visit certain areas of the garden centre once you exit the grotto.

How much are tickets?

Children's tickets include a gift from Santa and are £10 off peak (Monday - Thursday) and £12 peak times (Friday - Sunday and 23rd, 24th December).

Adults/Young Adults are £5 each. 


Is there a booking fee?

Yes, TicketSource charge a booking fee which is non refundable. The booking fee is 7.5% of the total value of your purchase. We will pay 50% of this charge, the other 50% will be added to your total. If you require a refund, the full 7.5% booking fee is non refundable, including the amount we paid. 


How much are the commemorative photos?

The prices for photos are:

How long is the grotto experience?

Please allow 30 – 40 minutes for the grotto experience.


What is included in the experience?

The experience takes you on a journey from the Chepstow Garden Centre train station, on to the Chepstow Express where you will experience a magical train ride simulation before you arrive at the North Pole, and on in to Santa’s Grotto. As you exit the grotto you will be in the grotto toyshop, where children can select their toy from Santa and commemorative photos can be purchased.


Is there a real train?

No, the train ride is a simulation of a train journey to the North Pole. This is suitable for all ages as the carriage itself does not move. 


Is the grotto outside?

No, it is on our shop floor. 


Why does Santa not give the toy?

We want to create the best experience possible for the children, and part of this includes the toy. We believe it is better for children to choose their own toy, so they can have exactly want they want. We do not want to pigeonhole them. We also want to give children the time to think about their choice and not feel rushed. Creating a toy area in the grotto allows children to choose their own toy in their own time.


Can I take photos?

Photos/video’s can be taken within the rooms of the grotto except for in Santa’s grotto itself. There will be the opportunity to purchase family photos with Santa as you leave. We request that if you share photos on social media, you are aware of other children that are in the photos and make sure their faces are not visible. 


Is the grotto wheelchair friendly?

Yes, the whole experience is wheelchair friendly. Please advise us on booking if you or a member of the group uses a wheelchair.


Do babies need a ticket?

No, a child under 1 does not need a ticket, but they will receive no gift from Santa. You can still have a photo with Santa and enjoy the experience with them.

If you would like your child to receive a gift, you can purchase a child ticket. 


Can I take a pushchair in to the grotto?

No, pushchairs are not allowed in the grotto. There will be an area where pushchairs can be left near the entrance to the grotto. Please be aware pushchairs left here are at the owners risk.


Can I make a group booking of more than 12 people?

If we have availability we will try our best to accomodate a larger group. You will need to contact us by email on 


A member of the group cannot make the booking; can I bring someone in their place?

Yes, as long as you do not bring more guests than the number of tickets you have purchased and the guest is suitable for the ticket type.


Is there parking near the centre?

Yes, we have a large car park which is free to use. 


Can I amend my booking?

If you wish to change your booking you will need to contact us on - there is no guarantee we can change your booking to a time which would suit you, it will depend on ticket availability. We can not amend bookings within 72 hours of your booked day. Please see our refund policy for full details. 


Can I get a refund?

How can I cancel my booking?
