Trees & Shrubs with Attractive Bark & Stems
Stunning garden displays need not always be about the foliage and flowers. Many trees and shrubs have colourful and textured bark that can only really be appreciated in the winter months when there is little else about.
Following is a brief list of the what you can find in our garden centre.
Paperbark Maple (Acer griseum) peeling red-brown bark and an architectural, weeping form.
Snake Bark Maple (Acer davidii) young red shoots develop into green and white striped bark.
Coral Bark Maple (Acer palmatum ‘Sango-kaku’) coral - red stems, and good autumn leaf colour.
Birch (Betula) several species of Birch provide colour, texture and architectural merit.
Himalayan Cherry (Prunus rufa) mahogany-coloured, peeling bark, small pink flowers in spring.
Corkscrew Hazel (Corylus avellana 'Contorta') twisted stems are a year-round source of curiousity.
Twisted Willow (Salix erythroflexuosa) young stems are red, maturing to orange-yellow.
Himalayan Honeysuckle (Leycesteria formosa) showy flowers in summer on blue-green stems.
Shrubby Dogwood (Cornus) bright and dark stem colours, flowers, foliage and fruit in summer.
